Dose The recommended dose is 100 mg taken when 50 mg is not effective. It needed approximately one hour before sexual activity.

Mechanism of Action When sexual stimulation causes local release of NO, inhibition of PDE5 by sildenafil causes increased levels of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and inflow of blood to the corpus cavernosum. Sildenafil at recommended doses has no effect in the absence of sexual stimulation.
Usage It is indicated in adult men with erectile dysfunction, which is the inability to achieve or maintain a penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance.
Side Effects Stop taking sildenafil & get emergency medical help if you have:

  • Heart attack symptoms – chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder, nausea, sweating;
  • Vision changes or sudden vision loss; or
  • Erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours
  • Ringing in your ears, or sudden hearing loss;
  • Irregular heartbeat;
  • Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;
  • Shortness of breath; Seizure (convulsions)

Common side effects may include:

  • Flushing (warmth, redness or tingly feeling),
  • Headache, dizziness, Stuffy nose,
  • Abnormal vision (blurred vision, changes in color vision)
  • Muscle pain, back pain or Upset stomach.
