|Mechanism of Action||AVIROZ-10 is a selective and competitive inhibitor of
HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme that converts
3-hydroxy3methylglutaryl coenzyme A to mevalonate, a
precursor of cholesterol.In in vivo and in vitro studies,
rosuvastatin produces its lipid-modifying effects in two ways.
|Usage||Rosuvastatin is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme
HMG-CoA reductase, having a mechanism of action similar to
that of other statins. Putative beneficial effects of rosuvastatin
therapy on chronic heart failure may be negated by increases
in collagen turnover markers as well as a reduction in plasma
coenzyme Q10 levels in patients with chronic heart failure.
